Description: This session will look at sustainability initiatives in the natural stone industry including the Natural Stone Sustainability Standard, Industry Wide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs). It will also highlight the latest technologies available and the creative options that they provide for the market. Finally, we will review case studies for award-winning projects that highlight the innovative use of natural stone materials and provide incite about the current trends that architects and designers are seeking.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the Natural Stone Sustainability Standard (ANSI/NSI 272) for the responsible production of natural dimension stone within the industry.
- Review and gain an understanding of the newly available Industry Wide PEDs for three categories of natural stone production: Cladding, Countertops, and Flooring.
- Learn about new technologies in the natural stone industry for quarrying and production and the new creative options that these are bringing to the design industry.
- Review award winning projects and trade shows to gain better awareness of new materials, what is being created with this new technology and trending design with natural stone.
Speaker: Daniel Wood
Daniel is a Lurvey’s Outside sales rep and a natural stone consultant with over 25 years in the Natural Stone Industry. He has worked with and visited hundreds of operations around the world and has delivered creative solutions to numerous customers, design firms on many award winning projects.
He is a Past President of the Natural Stone Institute. In addition, he is the current serves on the NSI Educational Committee. He holds a LEED GA certification and is also a member of USGBC, AIA, ASLA, MCAA, ICAA, ILCA and other organizations. He is a certified Speaker for the Natural Stone Institute and Daniel speaks on a regular basis at industry shows and events, and to many companies and organizations, about natural stone domestically and internationally. In addition, he leads natural stone and architectural educational tours in N. America and in various locations around the world.
